Need to Address HB 68 Bullying Policy in
Your Schools

House Bill 68 requires all school districts in the State of Kansas to have a bullying policy in place by January 01, 2008. What does this mean? State Government is concerned that bullying is not being addressed at all levels in every school. They wanted to make sure every school is doing something to address this ongoing problem.
I attended a Bullying workshop in Hutchinson last week and they were discussed how to address this problem in your schools and do enough to meet the requirements of the law. All districts must have a bullying policy adopted by January 01, 2008, but the plan to implement it does not have to be finished by then. In other words if you can not get your staff or students trained by January 01, 2008 then you must have it in your plan as to when you are doing this.
There are all kinds of programs on the market that you can buy to help you with training and education. Right now until January 01, 2008 there is a free service available I wanted to let you know about.
Randy Wiler, director of Kansas Bullying Prevention program has offered two free services to help schools meet the requirements. One is an on-line training course for staff members and the other is a free model policy. Both can be found on line at www.stopbullyingkansas.org.
If you want the staff training course you can get it at: www.stopbullyingkansas.org/KBPP_Online_Training.php
If you want the model policy go too:
www.stopbullyingkansas.org  and on the front page you will find Bullying Policy and Plan Development. That will be the model policy.
According to Randy these two things along with student education will meet the requirements of house bill 68. Hope this helps you with your program.
